We had a completely unplanned visit from total strangers this week. While my husband walked down the Alaska Highway to get to his vehicle after his overnight hike in the mountains then headed into town, he encountered some cyclists making their way toward Tok. After a few minutes chatting, he invited them to our place for a meal and a grassy lawn to pitch their tents.
I was thrilled, of course, because we don’t get a lot of far flung folks coming by for a visit other than hosting musicians for house concerts. This foursome consisted of a couple and two single women, three from Australia and one of the women from the Pacific Northwest but living in Australia.
They are making their way from Anchorage to Los Angeles, putting in 60-80 miles per day. And they have the mountainous roads of Canada ahead of them.
Two hearty meals with wine and cider, some laundry, lots of coffee and access to wifi got them ready for their journey south.
Someday, I hope to do some touring by bike as well. Right now, just living vicariously.
They are blogging their journey at Erin and Pete Alaska.
One time I really wish I lived in Tok–this IS Livin’ the Dream–one dream, anyway, and talk about paying it forward while thoroughly enjoying the NOW! 6yo is learning good things about life…..
